The NewFilmmakers NY SeriesNewFilmMakers screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street.

Tickets for Summer Series at NewFilmmakers NY are only $6 and are good for the whole night’s screenings and receptions. They are available at the Anthology Box Office the night of screening.

Kathleen Foster 10 YEARS ON AFGHANISTAN & PAKISTAN

10 YEARS ON AFGHANISTAN & PAKISTAN is about the human cost of the war in Afghanistan that has spread with attacks by remote controlled drones into Pakistan. Rarely heard voices of ordinary Afghans vent their anger at the violence and uncertainties of daily living. Footage of militant strikes and protests by Pakistani workers show images and stories invisible in the Western media.

This is a poignant documentary following a family’s involvement in a Cambodia medical mission after the death of their grandfather. The beauty and richness of the culture illuminates their humanitarian effort as they ponder death and spirituality.

Ethan Downing WALKING MERCHANDISE: CHILD TRAFFICKING AND THE SNAKEHEAD TRADE

Each year, Chinese children are trafficked to the U.S., sent by their parents through ‘snakehead’ smugglers. Following their arrival, they work in unsafe conditions for less than minimum wage, bound by smuggling debts as high as $100,000.

Dawn Snyder, a 25 year old college student, drops out of Yale after becoming mentally ill. Moving back home with her overbearing mother, Dawn spirals downward in a haze of psychotic delusions and nightmarish hallucinations.
